The aim of the 9th edition of the CineMigrante Festival is to create a space of cinematographic reflexion which allows to share, disseminate, make visible and raise consciousness of life experiences and issues of all those people who inhabit this world and who, in a certain moment and for some reason, decided o leave the place where they were born and migrate; generating instances of recognition in others, a recognition of ‘the otherness’ which allows to strengthen our own identity, contribute to our historic and individual knowledge and reflect in order to redefine ourselves.
Understanding that the social reality of a human being is defined by movement, the CineMigrante Festival proposes to deconstruct the impermeable identities that compose modern society. It serves as a meeting space for the different cultures which constitute our social reality.
The CineMigrante Festival proposes to reflect the current issues which intercultural movements imply, addressing migrations from a viewpoint which was pushed to the background by stereotypes constructed by mass media.
The festival is organized by CineMigrante, an NGO promoting the intercultural dialogue, formation of human rights through educative activities and cultural intervention. CineMigrante works with collectives, immigrant organizations and human rights institutions which dedicate themselves to the issue on a national and international level.
3. APPROACH AND SECTIONS
The issues which the need to migrate implies, set the spectrum for our approach. For CineMigrante, migrating is a condition of the body, it is walking along a territory in search of a fruit, a sustenance; it is to leave behind a war or a conflict; it is crossing an inner border, a physical or an imagined one; it is leaving the state of defenselessness to take action; it is inhabiting new spaces, occupying them and modifying them. This is why the approach of the festival is absolutely transversal.
The CineMigrante Festival focuses on the necessity of encounter and dialogue, which are fundamental for all human actions. This is why each section of the festival intends to show the form and the essence of dialogues which happen in a moment of encounter, be it dialogues of the present or dialogues of the past.
As an orientation, CineMigrante proposes that the audiovisual productions may approach one of the following thematic sections:
– Migration and work
– Migration and human rights
– Migration and work
– Migration and health
– Migration and education
– Migration and gender
– Migration and childhood
– Migration and indigenous people
– Climatic migrants
– Internal migration
– Refugees and asylum seekers
– Intercultural art and artistic expressions
– Intercultural music
– Intercultural issues in urban spaces
– Intercultural experiences and encounters in everyday life
– Construction of identity
and/or the following sections:
– American/European Dialogue (Migration from Europe to America, from America to Europa)
– America/Africa and Asia (Migration from America to Africa/Asia, from Africa/Asia to America)
– European/African and Asian Dialogue (migration from Europe to Africa/Asia and from Africa to Europe)
